The Importance of Foreign Matter Inspection in Cannabis
Q: What makes Foreign Matter Inspection (FMI) such an important test?
A: Although the Foreign Matter Inspection test does not yield a traditional quantitative result such as the various analytical chemistry tests required by the CRA, this test is equally important for consumer safety and a requirement for compliance testing. FMI is performed using both the naked eye and a high-power microscope to examine the cannabis for various contaminants on the surface and within the sample. Types of contaminants include but are not limited to powdery mildew (shown in the bottom photo), insect parts, and mammalian excrement in rare cases. Clearly, these contaminants are unsafe for the consumer, as they present the risk of adverse effects if consumed. Be sure to include FMI testing when you have your products tested at Reassure!
